How many times do you hear something like, "don't drink and drive"?
Too many times I'm sure. Why? Because people still do it. Young people who don't think first. Or, hard-core drinkers who don't care when they get behind the wheel. They believe that nothing will ever happen to them. Then someday, they end up in traction in a hospital. But they are not the innocent victims whose lives are forever changed - by death or debilitating injury.
Most folks don't think of the damage caused to other people after a drinking-driving accident.
Many, many people, families and friends, school-mates and work-mates, are screwed up for life because just one person chose to drink and drive.
There are far too many words published about drinking and driving. Yet, the impaired driving continues. The message must reach the drinkers. And, for some it does. What about the rest? Perhaps show a "what can happen" video in the bars once an hour. So much time and effort has been spent trying to educate drinkers, and yet the carnage continues. Perhaps, just like seat belts, a breathalyzer in every car will come to be.
The video referenced below does a wonderful job of showing how other people, those not even involved in a drinking-driving incident, are affected by a drinking-driving "accident".
From Australia then, here is the video which runs 5 minutes and 22 seconds and is worth every second of your time. Be cautioned that there are some disturbing scenes.
