Two Education Blogs Worth Reading
From time to time one comes across blogs which are outstanding. Here are two blogs related to education that I found by following the Twitter feed of Alberta's Education Minister, Dave Hancock.
The first is called Ask a Tech Teacher. It features a huge collection of websites for kids, sorted by grade and topic. It is created and managed by Jacqui Murray, who seems to have boundless energy.
The second is The Spicy Learning Blog by Royan Lee. The post to the blog called, "Framing Personal Internet Devices in Schools", really caught my attention because it has to do with portable devices, such as iPhones, being used at school, in class.
From his page, this quote, "I’ve created this resource to help people who are interested in using Personal Internet Devices (PIDs) in their schools or classrooms.".
That's all for now...
Good reading...Good learning...

UK Looking to Alberta Schools
A recent headline in the Edmonton Journal speaks about UK teachers looking at Alberta schools for insight as to why there are so many Alberta students so high on world-scale international achievement tests.
This article called, "U.K. looks for lessons from Alberta’s education system", goes into the whys and whats in depth.
A British company has produced 2 videos called Lessons from Alberta. The videos are available to watch at the TeachersTV website.
Here is a quote from the Edmonton Journal article:
“Alberta, in Canada, has the highest performing schools in the English-speaking world,” says a summary of one of the videos on the Teachers TV website. “This video explores the roots of the region’s success, accountability, curriculum and teacher professionalism.”
All in all, quite a nice tribute to Alberta Education, the school boards, schools, teachers, aides and all the staff who help make it happen. The students, of course, are the ones who gain the most.
Congratulations all!
Good teaching...Good learning,,,
